Join us at the 4th Annual Competition for a Cure, in honor of Dianna Burke. This year we are teaming with Susan G. Komen to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, the disease that affects millions of women and families every year.

Why We Are Hosting This Event?

2013- “My name is Patti Brose-Ziskind and my battle began on March 30th 2012 when I was officially diagnosed with stage 2A Breast cancer. I chose to have my treatment done at Froedtert Hospital because of its clinical trails and record for cure. My course of treatment included a double Mastectomy, chemotherapy and Herceptin, and an antibody therapy treatment that I hope to have completed by June 2013. My journey with cancer has been long, but a healthy and active approach, tons of water (100oz a day), a supportive & loving family, and a positive attitude has made me glide through it. My husband Mark was a rock and our two sons Nick (16), and Jack (11) were strong, supportive and very protective of me during my battle. I hope that I have taught them that life can dish out some bad stuff, but if you face it head on with a good attitude, and support from the ones you love, you will get through it. When I am not kickin’ cancers butt, I try to be as active as possible! I love to play women’s hockey, golf, work out and spend time with my family and friends. I have signed up for my first 1/2 Marathon on June 15th, so once I am cleared, I am going to start to love running! I am honored and excited to be a part of the 5th Annual Competition for a Cure with BeWell Fitness this year. Please join us while we work to raise funds and awareness to find a cure!”

2012- “My name is Dianna Burke, 48, daughter, wife, & mother.   I Live in Libertyville, IL with my husband Dan & daughters Maggie 18 & Sarah 15. Before being diagnosed I was active with biking, jogging, and yoga.   I have completed two Danskin triathlons in 2009 & 2010.   I have run twice, 2010 & 2011, in the Chicago Shamrock Shuffle hoping to run again 2013 and do another triathlon too!  In addition to being active  I have a passion for cooking so in 1999 I opened a retail business in downtown Libertyville:   Someone’s in the Kitchen.  I sold the business in 2006 to spend more time with my girls and husband.   I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in October 2011 and with the help and care of my physicians I am Cancer Free as of December 2011!  I want to make people more aware of how important Mammograms and Self-exams are for early detection, for without both of them I would not be saying today that I am Cancer Free!”

2011- “My name is Diana Nawrocki, Lake Forest College Gradate class of 2001 residing currently in Aurora, IL with two young children and my husband.  Before being diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer I was involved in triathlons starting in 2001.  In the summer of 2010 I completed the 70.3 Half IronMan and the Chicago Marathon.  My enthusiasm for sports never fades as I am excited to be part of Competition for Cure this year.  The money will benefit breast cancer research at Susan G. Koman.    I will complete my chemotherapy on March 29th and start up radiation in May-June of 2011. After completion I would like to do races to benefit breast cancer research and find ways to give back to the community. I would like bring more awareness to yearly checkups and self breast examines to continue to help others detect early stages of breast cancer.
