About

BeWell Fitness was founded by Ben Wellenbach in 2007. Originally from the Boston area, Ben’s experience stems from a wealth of knowledge from the top fitness professionals in the industry.

Strength and Conditioning: Ben’s mentor and first strength coach was Michael Boyle (www.michaelboyle.biz). For 2 seasons, Mike taught him the fundamentals and methodology through his professional, Olympic, and collegiate athletes. Ben’s current programs are derived from his teachings and practicum’s. Ben has worked with high school athletes, Waukegan Fire Combat Challenge Team, and a number of NCAA athletes.

Functional Movement/Injury Reduction: Ben trained under Todd Champlin, physical therapist for the Indianapolis Ice (Central Hockey League), rehabilitating athletes from injuries for 1 season. Most recently, he has studied under Gray Cook and Lee Burton, Co- Founders of the F.M.S. (Functional Movement Screen) (www.functionalmovement.com), learning to better screen people for deficiencies and weak areas of movement.  This will allow for the opportunity to design specific programs that prevent injury and improve performance. This specialization has given Ben the ability to better detect, asses and correct movement deficiencies as well as help with pain reduction including knees, the spinal cord, and shoulders.

Ben is national recognized through the American Council on Exercise, a Functional Movement Screen Specialist (F.M.S.S.), CPR and First Aid Certified.

Ben held Varsity letters in four sports (Football, Soccer, Hockey and Lacrosse) at Lawrence Academy (Groton, Ma). He then went on to play Varsity hockey at Lake Forest College (NCHA).
