Why we “mix” it up

What is the best exercise program? Is it circuit training? Is it traditional strength work?

The answer is yes.

When we put exercise programs together here whether it be for a group session which is focused more on a circuit or individualized programming focused more on the strength work, the end result is always the same philosophy; find the best way to get the results desired. Most of the clients that we train are either focused on weight loss or performance.

Whatever the outcome is that you desire the best results come from a “mix” of training intensities. For example, I could have someone do body weight squats in a circuit to get as many as they can in a specific amount of time, then take that same person and put them under various loads like a bar or kettlebell and have them squat for repetitions. The point is that they are still both squats but one is training a certain energy system and the other way is training another energy system. There is not one right or wrong way it is the hybrid that is the best approach.

What does matter is what you are training for and how much of one you should have then another. If you are training for performance then the more strength work the better but fit at least one day of circuit training in. If you are more on the fat loss side then more of a balance between the two would be appropriate.

The bottom line is this, if you are just doing one method of training you are missing a opportunity to be better and get better results. People, including myself want results when they train. We certainly don’t train just to train. We exercise because we have some end result in mind like fat loss better sports performance, etc. If you want to maximize your training then you need to find the right mix of intensities for you.

Big News for a Big New Year!

As the new year begins we all look at ways to attack this year better and differently then last year. I hope everyone wants to get better each year. It could be starting a resolution, a new commitment or a continuation of a great thing.

We have A LOT going on so keep reading!

We will go in order of date:

  1. I only do 2 transformation contests per year. The first one starts January 21st, next Monday, and goes until March 22nd. It will get you fired up and ready for Spring Break. We have multiple coaching sessions, nutritional planning, lifestyle planning and prizes for winners. If you are interested sign up now, since space is limited by emailing info@bewellfitness.com.
  2. The following Saturday, January 26th, we will be starting our workshop series again. Workshops will take place once a month with a new topic and theme each session. I will have more information on the new topics but to give you a idea, past topics have been CORE training, kettlebell training, bodyweight training and fat burning. A new year brings new topics and new information.
  3. Starting February 1st, select membership rates will increase on new memberships only. If you are thinking of joining or coming back please take advantage of the current $1 or $49 promotion so you can lock in the lower rate now before February 1st. For more information and any questions please email info@bewellfitness.com.
  4. Starting in February BeWell Fitness and Total Body Yoga will partner to offer yoga classes Monday-Thursday evenings. We will run the classes in 6 week time periods. This addition has been something that I have wanted to integrate for quite some time and now we have found the right people to partner with.
  5. We have started to plan already for our Annual Competition for a Cure Breast Cancer Fundraiser in April. Be on the look out for continued information regarding that and how you can help be a part of the event whether it be a big or small role.

Hopefully you have stuck around this email long enough to read everything. I wish you the best in the new year and hope to be part of your health and fitness success in some small or big way.

Isn’t Normal Nice

First I hope everyone had a great holiday and safe new year. For the past 10 weeks I have held a transformation contest. I specifically conduct the contest during that time of year because people’s schedules are out of whack, their eating habits are changed, sleep, alcohol, water, etc. It really is a challenge of how close you can keep to normal as possible. The two winners of the contest lost 21 pounds EACH and 4.75 inches and 7.5 inches respectively. Outstanding!

We have the opportunity with this new year to redefine what normal is. We can make it any way we want. I have one client who has worked out everyday this year! 8 days straight! I don’t care at what intensity or how long, they have made a conscious effort to make time to work out and make a new path for themselves.

I invite you to establish a new normal for you. Reflect and learn from the past year then move forward. Set new goals and standards for yourself. The next big date for people is Spring Break. Starting in 2 weeks I will be running the first of two Transformation Contests this year. It will take you right up until Spring Break and hopefully fit into your new normal. Think about what you can accomplish in 10 weeks. Anything is possible and I encourage you to step out of the box.

If you want to be a part of the Transformation Contest and lose the kind of numbers above email me at info@bewellfitness.com.
